Jessie was determined that her heart would not be broken by the love of any animal. She knew what pain animals could suffer better than most people because her father’s job was to tend animals. He was one of only two country veterinarians and he had dedicated his life to helping animals. Jessie had never left herself open to the kind of life that could hurt so much and be so hard. But, a dog’s love can capture your heart no matter how hard you try to stop it.
